PGD Testing

After embryos are produced in the IVF lab, they are developed for 5 to 6 days. On day 5 or 6, the biopsy for PGD is conducted on all accurately developing embryos.

Biopsy engages eliminating a few cells from the trophectoderm (the lining of cells hatching out of the embryo). The embryos are then frozen (cryopreserved) while the genetic substance is inspected for disorders by genetic experts. Once results are in, a frozen embryo transfer cycle is organized for the use of the healthy embryo(s).

Yes. Statistics of couple of previous years of PGD in numerous hundred thousand live births show that PGD is not responsible for birth deficiency. Follow-up inspections of babies born post-PGD do not show any proof of damaging effects on neurological growth over the first few years of life.

There is a minimal probability of miscarriages detected before placing back embryos when chromosomal testing takes place. Elimination of a few cells from the trophectoderm doesn't change the capacity of that embryo to turn into a successful pregnancy.

Embryos which are rich in normal quantity of chromosomes and appearance are selected. Embryo appearance (morphology) is very useful, but PGD testing assists to better detect the finest embryos. The mixture of normal physical morphology and normal genetic inspection shows the highest possibilities of achieving parenthood. All decisions related to which embryos to transfer are made collaboratively with the couple and medical staff.
