Although fenugreek has been used in Indian cuisine and traditional medicine for centuries, nothing is known about its effects on male fertility.

4. Shilajit

A natural herb from the Himalayas called shilajit has been shown to increase male hormone levels and help with infertility. The levels of total testosterone, FSH, sperm count, and motility increased in middle-aged males who took Shilajit pills for ninety days.

Through its synergistic effects with CoQ10, a chemical with strong antioxidant activity, it may also improve male reproductive health. Shilajit can also boost libido by enhancing the energy needed for sexual desire in the core.

5. Tribulus terrestris

Fruit-producing vine Tribulus terrestris is used in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine. It has been reported to increase sperm health metrics such as count, motility, and morphology, as well as stimulate hunger, relieve discomfort, and function as a diuretic to promote male fertility.

Its impact on male fertility has been the subject of little investigation, while in vitro tests have demonstrated increased sperm motility and count in 40 males and notable increases in sperm concentration and motility in 65 men.

6. Tongkat Ali

The South Asian medicinal plant Tongkat Ali has been shown to alleviate dyspepsia, sexual dysfunction, and a few other ailments, possibly improving the health of male reproduction.

Evidence of its advantages was discovered in a brief examination of the literature; however, the impact is still unknown.

Tongkat Ali extract boosted sperm concentration, motility, vitality, and testosterone levels, according to animal research. Further human study is necessary to comprehend its effect on male fertility fully. According to a 2017 review, it could improve general sexual health.

7. Ginseng

Popular Chinese herbal supplement ginseng contains anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities that help boost the immune system, enhance mental clarity, and lessen erectile dysfunction symptoms.

According to a 2016 study, Korean red ginseng increased viable semen, motility, sperm count, and morphology. A 2020 assessment, however, discovered that although a correlation is supported by certain clinical research, there is not enough data to support it as official medical advice.

8. Saw palmetto

The thorn-shaped leaves of the saw palmetto tree are used in herbal therapy to maintain healthy prostate function, testosterone levels, and urinary system functions, as well as to reduce inflammation.

There is, however, little proof of its advantages. Although saw palmetto boosted testosterone production and preserved healthy sperm motility in rats with chronically inflamed prostates, there isn’t much data to suggest saw palmetto’s benefits in people.

Herbs to avoid consuming in large amounts

1. Papaya seeds

It has been discovered that papaya seeds, which are contraindicated for pregnant women, can function as natural birth control for men. Even though papaya seeds are generally advised against during pregnancy, studies have indicated that they can cause infertility in males. Even if the impact of papaya seeds on male fertility is not well understood, it is a fact that warrants more research.

2. Bitter gourd

Bitter gourds are a serious worry for male fertility since, although they can be helpful for diabetic patients, they can also negatively decrease sperm count and function as active sterility inducers.

3. Clove

Excessive clove intake can drastically reduce a man’s ability to produce sperm, which may have an effect on healthy sperm.

4. Mint

A mint herb called peppermint has been shown to increase female reproductive hormones such as luteinizing hormone (LH) and folic stimulating hormone (FSH) while decreasing testosterone, a major male reproductive hormone.

Additionally, research indicates that spearmint increases female reproductive hormones in women while lowering serum testosterone, sperm count, and sperm motility. Men should thus abstain from regular mint use, even if their partners might find it enjoyable.

5. Bel leaf

Supplements containing betel leaf lower testosterone levels, which lowers male sperm motility and density.

6. Neem

Proven to have many health advantages, neem is an Ayurvedic plant that is anti-fertile for men and may not be good for male fertility if taken in excess. Its high concentration could make men less fertile.

7. Garlic

Males need to avoid raw garlic since research indicates that it lowers testosterone output and interferes with the development of new sperm. Garlic is a nutrient-dense meal.
